Soon after arriving to the unit on the 25th I tried to contact the management company as I couldn’t get any wifi and there wasn’t soap or shampoo. The next morning, the 26th, I tried again to reach them in various ways, but was still not able to reach anyone. Now the water wasn’t working. There was no water to the unit at all. So I tried several more times to reach them as I couldn’t shower or flush the toilet. Fortunately, I had bottled water. I then called Airbnb. They were eventually able to reach the management company. In short, the management company gave me an extra day for free in another unit that had wifi. I need wifi. That’s part of the reason I rent these places. I save my detailed planning for the next leg of the trip for these rentals. Internet is not usually good while camping.
Turns out there was no water in the building. They were doing some work on it. They did eventually turn the water back on to the building, and someone brought me soap and shampoo.
That evening a friend of mine from college picked me up and we went out to eat and catch up.
On the 27th, the management company came and picked me up and took me to the other unit on the 10th floor. It had wifi, but the view was not as good and the place was a touch smaller. It’s all good. It’s an extra night and the wifi is good. I can plan and will try to explore the city a bit, so it being smaller and not as good a view is fine. Plus, when I pulled into town I kind of felt like I was rushing it being here only two nights. So this turned out to be a hidden blessing. I was able to get some stuff done online, planned a bit, and made it to the Calgary Tower, an Indian restaurant, and walked around 17th street that evening. So I’ve done what I was hoping to do here. The extra day allowed me to relax and enjoy the place. Tonight is also going to be one of the cooler nights so it means I don’t have to camp in sub-freezing temps. Tomorrow will be four degrees warmer which isn’t much but helps.
