Lake Louise gets a lot of attention, but after Lake Moraine yesterday, it was kind of a let down. Moraine is so incredible. With all the hype, I expected a lot of Louise. It was nice, but Moraine takes the cake. I hiked up to a glacier, then was going to hike to Lake Agnes, then back to my car. I even considered going back to Moraine before heading back to the campground for the night just to see it one more time.
While hiking, a couple recommended I go to Lake Agnes via “Big Beehive”. I’d heard of it. In talking with someone else I’d decided not to do it, but with it only being 1 km more, I decided to try it as the views were supposedly very nice. I’d later regret this decision. It was a steep climb. It added an hour, maybe more, offered ok but not spectacular views, and totally wiped me out. So I got back to my car famished and ate what I could as I didn’t see any great local restaurants still open. It was also too late to see Moraine Lake as I'd hoped, so I head back to my campsite.
My muscles are aching. I’ll shower in a bit, but they were all full when I checked them out just now. I can’t remember showers being full when I wanted to shower, especially with it not being high season.
I’d planned to go to Glacier tomorrow (the Canadian one), but their website says their campgrounds close the end of September – today! I may have missed it by a day. In researching local Airbnb houses I found quite a few good ones in a town just beyond Glacier. Muscles tired, no camping in Glacier, and not really seeing any amazing hikes there, I may just head to Revelstoke. That would give me internet, too, which would mean I could catch up on stuff and take it easy, enjoying the little town.
