Five times on my trip when someone asked me to take their picture, and I did... using my own camera. I included their initial response in the caption : D

My last stop of the trip before flying home the end of June was Zurich, Switzerland. I love the sound of tower bells. This church tower bell in Zurich was my favorite of the trip. The sound was so deep and resonating I was looking forward to hearing lots of street musicians playing music from their countries this trip, but it only happened a few times. What I heard was a lot of American music. This was one of only a few times I could hear something sounding more local
My last stop of the trip was Zurich, Switzerland. While based in Zurich, I did the Saxer Lucke Hike on my last weekend of this 2.5 month trip. It has now replaced the Ben Lomond Track in New Zealand as my favorite hike with its amazing views (you can see three countries) and well-maintained trail If you listen carefully, you can hear the cowbells below Not a shabby view near the start of the trail
My drive back to Switzerland took me through the capital city of Vaduz, Liechtenstein. I guess I had low expectations. I loved my day in Vaduz and stayed longer than planned. Beautiful and clean, and I loved the walking paths, restaurants, and modern buildings mixed with old historical ones. I think I could actually live there. It rained hard right after getting into the restaurant and stopped before leaving I was only there one night, but I really enjoyed Innsbruck, Austria
Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Dolomites of Italy. Great views, great hiking, amazing local cuisine. What's not to love? You'll see this town again in the near future as they are hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics. A 300-ish degree view of the hiking area A day spent visiting all three towns using a ferry between them Another clip of the drive through the roads around the lake
After being in Switzerland for a few weeks, I dipped back down into nearby Italy visiting Lake Como which I had missed while in Italy. I had heard good things about it. Laglio, Italy on Lake Como was a great base for exploring the small towns around Lake Como, and for enjoying relaxing day and nighttime views. It's also the location George Clooney chose for one of his vacation homes. And amazingly, I saw George Clooney! Though it was just a picture online, not in person. : ) ![]() The yellow house surrounded by trees is George Clooney's vacation home. I could see it from the balcony of the Airbnb I stayed in. I didn't pick the Airbnb for that reason, but it was a nice perk. I read that he spends about four months out of the year here and can be seen around town when he's here. But alas, he was not in town while I was there. Sixty seconds on a narrow Italian road around Lake Como (Ossuccio, Italy) with a local radio station playing for your listening pleasure. While exploring Cernobbio, I entered a cathedral midday where a wedding was in progress. I stood inconspicuously in the doorway watching for a few minutes.
Unfortunately, my expectations were too high so Andermatt ended up not being quite what I expected. Still, it was a beautiful Swiss village that was conveniently on the way to Lake Como, Italy, so a good place to stop. It was nice, gave me ample opportunity to talk about starting a laundromat there named "Landermatt" (see what I did there?), and gave me a chance to see the Tour de Suisse roll by while all traffic was stopped for 45 minutes while it did so. Tour de Suisse passing by. I wish I had taken this closer, but I didn't realize what the traffic jam was for until too late.
