I woke up a few times last night. I started out cold so went into cold temperature mode early on. I woke up around 7 and added socks. It was supposed to get down to 40 last night so I wondered why I was so cold. When I got up I turned on the car and saw that it was 33 F. That makes more sense. Maybe it’s colder at my campsite than at the nearby city. Either way, tonight is supposed to be about 7 degrees warmer.
Today I did the Hidden Lake Trail. I walked to the main viewing platform which I believe was about a mile and a half away. You could see the lake down below. I then followed a trail that led to the lake. I passed two guys who were coming up. I never saw anyone again the rest of the hike. It was a mile and a half down to the lake. The views were spectacular. Way more amazing then from the platform. I even saw two white mountain goats.
I got down to the lake which was surrounded by dense evergreens. When I entered that area I readied my can of bear spray as I felt certain I’d see something in there, and with low visibility I didn't want any problems or surprises. I explored all around and never once saw an animal. Maybe it’s too late in the season as I’ve read this is the place to see mountain goats. At one point I skipped a rock over the surface of the lake with the bear spray in my left hand and accidentally sprayed it into the lake while I threw the rock. Fortunately, there was no wind and I shot it into the water. I’d forgotten I had it in my hand as I’d been walking around with it ready to use if needed.
I walked back up the hill as the sun went down. So awesome. So quiet. Six miles round trip.
