Today I did the Notch Trail before leaving the Badlands. With not-so-great shoes and a camera around my neck I wasn’t sure how far I’d be able to get. Plus, it was supposedly an hour and a half to two hours round trip. I did it in about an hour with stops and side trips. Easy trail and amazing scenery. Like being on Mars. I did it early so I was one of the only ones out there at first. Loved it.
I then headed to Mt. Rushmore. That was awesome as well. So iconic. Glad I got to finally see it.
As I was departing I heard that someone I'd worked with at a summer camp in Missouri back in my college days was camping nearby. I connected with her after visiting Mt. Rushmore. Great to see her again and met her daughter who was with her. They invited me to stay on their site for the night but I figured it was best to move to my next campground as it would save me an hour or two of driving the next day. Kinda wished I’d have stayed. They were fun.
I stayed in Spearfish, South Dakota for the night.
