Männlichen, Switzerland overlooks Wengen. Wengen overlooks Lauterbrunnen. Up, up, up I go. This playground will make you want to be a kid again. The cow was impressive. You climb the steps into its, um... so you enter through the back and can go down the tongue slide, or climb up to the top which has a sort of deck you can look out from. There are cow bells to play with inside. The black circles around the base are trampolines. Fog rolling in
While most of my trip was done solo, I was able to connect with two friends I'd known from back home while I was in Switzerland. I don't mind traveling alone, but the trip was much more awesome with friends. And with the views in Grindelwald, life was good! Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland - home to some of the best scenery I may ever see. Train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen looking down over Lauterbrunnen The inside of a wiggly train
Home of the Valais Blacknose sheep. They originated in this area I really enjoyed Bern, Switzerland. It's one of just a few places on this trip I think I could live. A capital city that has great food, things to do, and is easily walkable. You can also be in the suburbs within a few minutes of downtown with the parks, small restaurants, and quieter settings they offer. I also got one of the best haircuts of my life there. I randomly wandered upon this group as I was walking around Saturday evening. Not sure who they were, why they were singing, or what they were singing. But it was kind of cool and they had an audience. Bern is full of great places to chill. On one edge of Bern you have a great park with trails, a long trail that goes along the river, a green river with lots of people swimming or floating down it, and another park across the river with beach volleyball, places to sit or layout, and more walking paths. Not sure what this is called, but it was kind of cool to watch this guy do his thing.
Enney, Switzerland will be the surprisingly spectacular stay I didn't expect and even would have ruled out given its remote location. But that is just what made this stay so incredible. And with a train station a three-minute walk away, the remoteness was not an issue at all. This train gave me access to Gruyeres, the town that brought me to this area, and a few other places. The local grocery store was on the bottom level. Super quaint, super awesome. Grabbed some likely locally-made bread and granola (which was stored in large airtight jars), eggs, fruit... I didn't have a bag so the cashier let me run the basket over to my stay three mins away and bring it back later. Along with Chamonix, this was a place I've wanted to visit since I first saw pictures of it many years ago. Beyond the history and picturesque old town, I loved the well-maintained public areas and sense of community there.
