Today I hiked to "Key Summit" near Milford Sound, a hike that is about an hour from my campsite. A-may-zing! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I arrived at the top. The views were like nothing I’d ever seen before. The walks in Milford Sound and the drive to it have been incredible. I’ve never seen a nicer place in my life I don’t believe.
While hiking up I passed a group that was standing off to the side of the path taking pictures of what at the time seemed to be the best view on the trail. As the group departed a girl remained there, camera in-hand, as if she’d expected her group to use it to take pics of her. She had kind of an entertained look on her face over the abandonment. I said, “Were you wanting your picture taken here?” She said "Yes". I took it for her and walked with her the short distance to the top. She’s Czech and living in New Zealand for about a year. We get to the top and her outgoing house host starts talking to me and introducing herself. I learn that she seems to want to hook up Eva with a guy. lol We exchange info and, since her house host rents out rooms in her Queenstown house I make plans to look into that. It would be cheaper than my campsite and would be a bedroom with a bed, access to a shower and internet. Eva also offered to show me around Queenstown which would be very helpful. I may take them up on this.
From one of the vantage points at the summit I can see Lake Marian. It’s far away and small. I expected to see a huge lake, or something more amazing since a sign post points it out to hikers. But it’s a glacier lake in a valley, so that’s cool. I think it would be cool to see up close.
When I got home I looked up my plans for the next day not remembering the name of the hike. I was going to be going to a lake or something. I was shocked to see that I'd be hiking to Lake Marian! I couldn’t believe it. It hadn’t meant anything to me the day before when I saw the name, but now it did!
