I'd love to post amazing pics of some summit I staked an American flag in today, but I slept in, did some stuff online, went for a drive, then met up with Eva and some friends of hers that evening. Though, honestly, the day ended on a spectacular note, and one that exemplifies the best part of this trip to NZ for me. So in a way, today was amazing.
We'll fast forward through the sleeping in, waking up under the bed with toothpaste foam on my face and my toothbrush stuck to the ceiling, and start at the point where I went for a drive.
The area is amazing, and the drive out of town is very scenic. It's hard not to rubberneck at times. I found a little park about 10 minutes outside of town and hung out there for a bit enjoying the sunshine, slight breeze and views of Lake Wakatipu.
Eva was going to be connecting with a friend of hers that evening that was leaving to go back to Chile and invited me along. I figured I'd head back to the house, clean up a bit, then head over to meet them. What took me 10 minutes to drive leaving the city now took me 30 trying to get back in. Nearing rush hour and joining the masses wanting to get into the city, at times traffic didn't move. It was at this point that I issued a decree that I would never live in Queenstown. I sealed this with a thumbprint in toothpaste foam.
Altering my plans a bit I made a quick trip back to the house then rushed off to meet them. I met up with Eva, then we headed to where the others were. They'd saved us two slices of pizza which I let Eva have as they were covered in meat. The five of us, representing the USA, Japan, Chile, China and the Czech Republic, talked about everything from life in New Zealand to Chinese and Japanese characters. It was awesome. A few hours later, starving, I headed off to get the Mexican food I'd been dreaming about for days with plans to connect with the others later. They were headed to a bar in the area, so I'd let them do their thing while I ate, then connect with them at the end. They knew I didn't drink. Eva and Andrea ended up joining me at the restaurant instead, with plans to try to connect with the others later. More hanging out and good times. It was awesome. Good day.
