Today I left Te Anau, and drove to Queenstown. I'll be taking a break from campgrounds for a while and will be staying with Judy, the house host Eva has been staying with. I'd met Eva (pronounced like "Ava") and Judy (pronounced like "Judy") on a hike I took about a week ago. Judy offered me a place to stay in her house while I was in Queenstown which I'd decided to take her up on.
As I had plans to meet up with Eva over lunch, I needed to get to Queenstown around noon. The drive there was amazing, and I had to avoid the temptation to pull over every five minutes to capture the scene with my camera. Rolling hills full of sheep, and awesome mountain views. Had I not been on a schedule I may have arrived in Queenstown with about 100 pics from that hour long drive. I did pull over occasionally but I was running late, so it was a quick pic before hopping back in the car and zipping off.
I arrived in Queenstown and quickly found the gondola where we'd agreed to meet up. Eva and I took the gondola to the top with an area that overlooks the city of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu, and the surrounding mountains. Amazing views!
We then did the luge a bit before she had to head back to work. I stayed up there finishing the luge rides (we got three each, so I took her last one as well), then walked around the area, stopping to grab a bite to eat at one point.
That evening after she got off work we went to Fergberger to have dinner. The restaurant is a tourist attraction and is the place to go in Queenstown. A small place with a long line. However, as we walked up there was no line. After ordering, a longer line formed. Good timing. I ordered the vegetarian burger. Messy, but absolutely amazing. It is strips of battered tofu with an amazing sauce all over it. Yum!
Eva recommended getting ice cream at Patagonia Chocolates afterwards. I sampled one of the flavors then quickly ordered it before it got away. One of the best ice creams I've ever had! The description of the flavor I chose, "Tramontana" mentioned caramel and cream, though I also got a few veins of chocolate fudge in there. Oh man that stuff is the truth!
