When I woke up it was raining. I did a few things in the tent but the rain never let up, so I made a dash for it, taking down my tent, and throwing everything into the back seat of the car as fast as I could. I then drove over to the kitchen to grab a bite to eat. I chatted with the three girls that were camping in the site two over from mine. They'd come in after dark the night before. There was a field full of sites, all but a few that were empty, and even about 10 along the same fence further away from mine that they could have claimed but somehow decided to set up close to mine. This is equivalent to entering an elevator with only one person in it and going over and standing right next to them instead of on the opposite side. Anyway, they were nice. I never did ask them about why they chose that site. Whatever.
I was going to stay in a campground an hour or two away from where I was but due to reviews online of this first place, needing to keep moving, and the hope of better weather further north, I drove the extra hour and landed at the Hot Water Beach Top Ten Holiday Park. This would be the nicest campground I'd stayed at so far, maybe in my life. With wet equipment and soggy ground as a result of rain they'd received I decided to stay in a basic cabin (bed, table, fridge, no restroom in the cabin). Turns out this would be a great decision. It poured that evening. The ground wasn't able to absorb it fast enough, so at one point I saw about a half inch or more or water pooling in the front yard. This would have been in my tent. I turned on the heat and spread out my wet equipment. I'd make the decision about whether or not to camp or stay in the cabin the next day after it stopped raining. The cabin was nice and very new. Turns out it was just a few weeks old. The one next to it was still being worked on.
